ACTIVITY INSTRUCTOR II

Activity Instructor II, Part-time position, includes day, evening, weekend hours

 

The Activity Instructor II works under the direction of the Program Supervisor to lead innovative social, recreational and educational activities for people with developmental disabilities.  Ensure that programs run as directed so that members learn new skills, connect to the community and have fun through meaningful experiences and relationships.   This position will also provide recommendations to supervisor to improve program performance.

 

Additionally, the Activity Instructor II will be responsible for driving and transporting members in CEL vehicles; serve as appropriate role model for members and act in a professional manner – showing respect to all members, staff and stakeholders.  CEL believes that everyone’s unique contributions and differences are respected, member rights and confidentiality are honored and a person-centered philosophy is practiced.

Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) ); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one-year experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to understand and speak English clearly and fluently.
  • Possess general knowledge of games, sports, group activities and other recreation and leisure interests.
  • Ability to be creative and flexible with groups.
  • Must have strong teamwork, communication and effective time management skills

EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST

Our innovative Employment Opportunities Program in Riverwoods is in need of an Employment Specialist (ES) to support members in their pursuit of vocational careers. The ES will work directly with candidates, using a customized approach, to find and retain competitive community employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. In addition, the ES will conduct job development and job search activities directed towards positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of those being served; provide oversight to each individual in acquiring and maintaining the necessary skills for appropriate job retention; and provide education and support to employers and potential employers.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in a human services field and at least 1 year of experience working in the supported/customized employment field with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities OR the equivalent training and work experience related to intellectual/developmental disabilities and employment.
  • May be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • At least one year experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Must be able to understand and speak English clearly and fluently.

REACH PERSONAL SUPPORT INSTRUCTOR

REACH Personal Support Instructor; Part-time position, day-time hours

Our innovative day program in Hoffman Estates is in need of a Personal Support Instructor (PSI) to support members in their daily activities, including feeding, toileting, and participating in group activities – both within the building and on community outings.  You are needed to ensure that our members are participating to the best of their ability.  As needed, you will assist in behavior intervention.

You are an instrumental part of members’ success and contribute to the development and implementation of the REACH for Success plan.  You should serve as an appropriate role model and show respect to all of our members, their parents and family members, staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Able to become PACE certified preferred; i.e. be at least 23 years old, pass a physical, pass a drug/alcohol test, written driving test and over-the road test.

REACH 1:1 INSTRUCTOR

REACH 1:1 Instructor – Part-time position, 15-20 hours per week (9:30 AM – 2:30/3:00 PM)

The REACH team is now hiring a part-time 1:1 Instructor. Under the direction of the REACH Program Supervisor, assist assigned individual(s) with community service projects, volunteer projects and in other life skill training areas. Implement and monitor behavior programs, assist with toileting or other personal care needs and be familiar with members’ dietary and feeding restrictions/needs. Encourage full participation of the individual to the best of their ability. Assist in the completion of assessments, reports and daily progress notes for assigned member(s). Contribute to the development and implementation of the REACH for Success Plan. Serve as appropriate role model for member. Act in a professional manner; show respect to all members, parents/family members, staff and stakeholders. Observe member rights, confidentiality and practice a person-centered philosophy.

An exciting and fun opportunity in our dynamic program department awaits the right person! The Summer Activity Instructor works under the direction of the Program Supervisor to lead innovative social, recreational and educational activities for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. This position works with teens in our Summer Camp as well as evening and weekend programs. The Summer Activity Instructor ensures that programs run as directed so that members learn new skills, connect to the community and have fun through meaningful experiences and relationships.   This position will also provide recommendations to supervisor to improve program performance.
